‘But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. ‘ James 3:17

PDF Version

Let’s take a look at this verse with a little deeper look at each of these character traits –

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, chaste, free from sin, innocent, modest, and uncontaminated; peaceable, peaceful (God’s gift of wholeness which results from knowing the Lord’s will and obeying it); gentle, reasonable, moderate, forbearing, equitable, fair, holding to the spirit not just the letter of the law; submissive, compliant, willing to yield, easily persuaded, obedient; full of mercy, compassion, pity, tender mercy; good, beneficial, fruit or crops, (everything done in true partnership with Christ); impartial, without partiality, unwavering; sincere, genuine, without hypocrisy, unfeigned, without, hidden agendas or selfish motives.”

Ok, now how about the English that we actually speak?

When we truly have wisdom that comes from our Heavenly Father, whether imparted directly or gained over time by spending time in His presence through prayer and reading & studying His word our lives will reflect evidence that our wisdom is genuine and from Him. First, we live lives with honest humility that are pure and without sin and uncontaminated by the world in which we live. We strive to live at peace with others and act as peace makers when we have the opportunity. Our lives reflect wholeness and maturity are the result of hearing and obeying His Word. We are just and fair, yet reasonable, gentle and merciful in our interactions with others. Furthermore, we have no problem submitting and considering another above ourselves. We show mercy and compassion and tender care to those in need, including those who may have hurt or offended us. Our lives bear good fruit; what we say and do has a positive and beneficial impact on the lives of others around us. We are impartial and show no favoritism to others no matter who they are or what they have. Finally, we live lives of integrity, and honor that are sincere and without hidden agendas or selfish ambitions and motives.

Does your life demonstrate “wisdom from heaven”?
