‘And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. ‘  Romans 8:11

Earlier this week I was driving as I often have to do in order to get from one office to another to see clients for work. Also as I usually do, I had my worship music playing and I was praying as I drove.

For lack of a better way of saying the Lord gave me an overwhelming download of understanding of something that I had considered to a degree previously, but to the depth that I came to understand during this drive. It is my hope and prayer that He will give me the words to convey these thoughts with you all.

The first idea that I came to understand is to say it lightly, controversial. It is actually a concept that I have battled personally for some time.

  • When Jesus lived on the Earth he was Fully a human and NOT God.
    • Jesus emptied himself of his deity and considered it not something to be used for his advantage.
    • From his conception Jesus was endowed  and filled with the Holy Spirit. (Philippians 2:6-8)
    • With that in mind, all that He did from how he lived day to day, to the miracles that he performed all was done not out of his deity, but through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit within him.
  • Believers have a very specific and special relationship with the Holy Spirit.
    • The Holy Spirit was promised to all who believe.(Acts 2:16-18, John 17:37-39)
    • Jesus had to leave the Earth and return to Heaven so that the Father could send the Holy Spirit as our Comforter and Advocate.  (John 16:7, Acts 1:5-8)
    • Holy Spirit, who raised Jesus from the dead, is now living in us. (Romans 8:11)
  • The result of Walking by faith and living in the Spirit.
    • We can choose to walk by the Spirit and if we will “crucify” ourselves then it is Christ  living in us by the Holy Spirit. (Galatians 2:20,5:16)
    • How Jesus lived and EVERYTHING that he did and MORE we can do by the power of the Holy Spirit that now resides in us. Thus, He is the first born of many brothers and sisters. (John 14:11-12, Romans 8:28-30)

Let me try to summarize all of the points above in a concise but understandable way. When Jesus stepped out of Heaven and came to Earth in the form of a man, he left all his power and authority and deity there. When he lived and walked on the Earth he did so fully as a human being, yet one that was endued and filled with the Holy Spirit. It is this SAME Holy Spirit that was promised to ALL who believe and call on the name of Jesus. The same Spirit in which Jesus himself said we would be filled and baptized. This is the AMAZING part to me. The very same way that Jesus lived, without sin, and doing miracles on a daily basis we now have the ability to live without sin and also walk in a life filled with miracles just as he did with the guidance and power and authority of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus, the blood he shed and his resurrection. Yes, we are still human, born into sin, but we are set free from sin when we become believers. IF we trust in, and rely on and walk in the Holy Spirit we will not walk in the flesh. Finally, Jesus himself said “whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these.” As we walk more and more in the Spirit, we are transformed more and more into the image of Jesus. The more we live by the Spirit, the more we look and sound like “Jesus with skin on.”

My dear friends, I urge you to read, meditate on, pray on these scriptures and listen with an open to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Again, I hope and pray that I have been able to communicate this understanding and revelation with you and that you experience the excitement and joy, yet trepidation and responsibility that I do as a result of it.

‘Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!  Philippians 2:6-8

‘But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. ‘   John 16:7

‘For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” ‘ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”    Acts 1:5,8

‘No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. ‘  Acts 2:16-18

‘On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. ‘ John 7:37-39

‘So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. ‘ Galatians 5:16

‘I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. ‘   Galatians 2:20

‘Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:11-12

‘For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. ‘ Romans 8:28-30
